Friday’s Meeting 12 September 2025
Kirby “sing like there is no tomorrow” White got us started with singing and the pledge. Stand in Pres Hal Broadfoot presided on short notice and did a good job. Sandy Sanders offered the invocation, and we remembered our infirmed members and/or family: Phil Harris Sr., Lee Warren’s daughter, Tammy; Debbie Best’s sister, Kara Britan; Kalli Zigler’s brother, Paul; Robbie Talton’s wife, Deanna; Bobby Bleeker; Barbara Porter’s daughter-in law, Tom Keith; and Fred Cutter’s Father.
We welcomed our guests this week: Andre Thomas and Greg Swanson
Announcements:
- Jay Gothard summarized the Joint Board Meeting held Thursday night. The finance committee recommended, and the Board approved a donation of $10K to Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls club for Cabin fix up etc. The committee of the month is the House Committee
- Terrific Kids-Your supplies are ready for pick up and distribution to your schools.
- Membership- Social scheduled for 18 September 5:30pm at Anchor Allie’s
- Key Club sponsors- The Key club committee is looking to establish at least 2 club liaisons for each Key Club. They would prefer that the liaison be a graduate from the school.
- Golf Tournament- October 3 (no meeting that day) still need golfers and gift items for each golfer.
Did You Know? Cheryl Gleason gave us a peek at a draft version of our Kiwanis advertisement.It was awesome and represented our club well.
Program: George Hendricks introduced Dr Kelli Taylor, Chaplin at Methodist University, as our guest program speaker. Dr. Taylor gave us an interesting little known history of Methodism in the early CRoss Creek Fayetteville area. She highlighted the life and history of Bishop Francis Asbery, who was a circuit rider Methodist preacher responsible for the spread of the Gospel and the start up of many Methodist Churches in our area and other parts of North Carolina.
Will Gillis won $40 in the 50/50 raffle. Please come to the next meeting when the program will be presented by The Cape Fear Beard Club. Bring a perspective member.

I went to a dog show the other day. A Yorkie took Best in Show, a Jack Russell took second, and a Scotty took third. I’m starting to think the judges had some sort of All-Terrier motive.
