Terrific Kids’ Time!
Calling all Terrific Kid Committee members!  We are in the short rows now for the end of the school year and presentation of our annual Terrific Kids’ Awards. As of Monday, Diane Parfitt says that the plaque and package for your school are ready to be picked up at City Center Bookstore on Hay St.  Any plaques not picked up by Thursday will be available at the meeting on the 17th.  The date and time of your school awards ceremony and the student receiving the award will be included with your packet.

Announcements
President Al reports a very quiet and quick board of director’s meeting.  President Elect Jim Schaffer announced his own baseball committee as Committee of the Month for April.  We demand a recount!  President Al says there was a written report from ALL committees as we continue to rebuild our traditional operations following the pandemic. Jim reports that the fundraising goal of $10,000 for baseball advertising revenue is going to be met.
Richard Everette was re-elected as Club Treasurer in absentia for another year while he was on “wine time” in Napa Valley with Tricia and Johnny and Donna Dawkins.  An audit of club funds may be the first order of business for the new year!
May is national membership month in Kiwanis International and Kim Thomas correctly answered the trivia question of the week for the new Two For Two membership initiative. For details visit the Kiwanis International website.
We have one addition to the prayer list this week.  New member Gary Weller was admitted to the hospital to deal with some health issues.  Get well, Gary, we hope to see you back soon.
Shirish Devasthali won $74 in the 50/50 raffle.

North Carolina Military Business Center
President Al introduced Trent Ensley, Program Manager with the NCMBC. The NCMBC is fully funded by the state budget and the local office is located at FTCC. Their sole mission is to assist local businesses in securing federal military contracts. North Carolina has the 4th largest military population in the nation assigned to 6 military installations across the state. Military spending in North Carolina has an economic impact of $80 billion per year, second only to agriculture in this state. Cumberland County currently has a total of $75 million in military contracts with another $165 million scheduled for fulfillment by the end of 2024.  Over the next 10 years 4 brand new barracks are in the funding plan which will create many jobs in construction and rental services over the next decade. All business services provided by the staff on NCMBC are completely free of charge to businesses. Thanks for a great program, Al!

Parting Shot, Live and Learn
Final thought from my recent hip replacement surgery. Modern pain medication is wonderful, but can have a “binding” effect.  So, under no circumstances should you take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night!
