KIWANIS KEY
Friday Sept. 5, 2025

President No Tie rung us in, Kirby “Sweet Home Alabama” (?) White led us in song and pledge. Tim Pope gave a nice invocation. Our infirm list remains full including Phil Harris Sr, Lee Warren's daughter Tammy, Debbie Best’s sister Kara Brittain, Kalli Zeigler’s brother Paul, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Barbara Porter’s daughter-in-law Nicole, Bobbie Bleeker and Tom Keith.

Guests today included Rudy Commack, Sandy Yates (who just made her third meeting and we all know what that means…) and Lily Garcia from Terry Sanford Key Club who expressed her heart-felt thanks for Kiwanis sponsoring her trip to the Kiwanis convention in Orlando.

Cherene Comack was sworn in with her sponsor Grace McGrath at her side apparently.  Prez No Tie did not have the Kiwanis commission and he said some made up words, but Welcome to the Club, Cherene!

We will be meeting at Hay Street United Methodist Church on Oct. 17,24 and 31 due to early voting at the Kiwanis Rec Center. Somebody tell Rick Booth!

Carmine John Malzone was not present but his able assistant Cheryl Gleeson told us that we only need 4 more people to meet 40 for this year’s splash pad challenge. No one could answer the question why 40 was such a magic number, but then we figured that it costs John more money so it has to be good!
Golf Tournament to be held on October 3 as will that Friday’s meeting at Cypress Lakes. Back the Pack Brown told us in no uncertain terms that he needs more help, more door prizes, more sponsors, (give your sponsor money to Bruce or Jay or anyone on the Golf Committee) and we need more participants.  You can go to Luigis or somewhere and get one door prize for the tournament, and clean off those clubs from the back of the garage and get out there and play. This event is one of our major fundraisers.
Yours truly and Thomas Neville will be hosting the September social on Thursday September 18 at Anchor Allies on the Boulevard from 5:30-7:30. Please plan to come. The October social will involve costumes and will be held on October 30, details to follow as we get closer.

There will be a Membership Committee meeting after the regular meeting on September 12.

Cam Estremadoiro, Jason Poole and Tom Wills all had birthdays since we last met. Happy Birthday!

The Joint Board meeting for current and incoming Board members and officers will be held at Holmes Security starting at 6 PM September 11. This is mandatory for all current and incoming members.

Our Did You Know segment was brought to us by our retired minister Steve Brotherton. In a former life, Steve was a financial planner that did work internationally with a group of fellow planners. He was at a traditional dinner meeting in Kurdistan on Steve and his group’s last night there. They dined on boiled goat heads, lips and eyes. Steve lucked up and got the lips, which he said tasted like boiled rubber bands. Thanks for a fascinating Did you know, Steve. I feel safe in saying that no one in the room knew that before you spoke!

Dianne Parfitt introduced our program: Sarah Bussman, who is the Director of Community Engagement at the Fayetteville Arts Council. Sarah told us about many opportunities for Seniors (she read the room very well!). You can channel your inner artist for free at the local Senior Centers and participate in Dance, Origami, Magic, Shadow Puppet, and Poetry among many others. Fun Fact, Sarah is the first chair flutist (flautist?) in the Fayetteville Symphony. Anyone who wants more info can look at their website at TheArtsCouncil.com. Thanks for a great program, Dianne.

Our resident birder, Hal Broadfoot pocketed $43.00 winning the Reverse Raffle. Maybe he can now afford to feed the birds in his own back yard.
Until next Friday…
