Friday 11 July Meeting
 
President “no tie “Jim started us on time and Kirby “summer breeze “led us in singing and pledging. Please keep the following K members and their families in your prayers: Phil Harris Sr, Lee Warren’s daughter Tammy, Jan Ervin, Debbie Best’s sister Kara, Kalli Zigler’s brother Paul, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Bobby Bleeker, Barbara Porter’s daughter-in-law, Tom Keith, Tim Dunn’s nephew Shane. President Jim welcomed us all and noted how nice it was for the club to send him on vacation/ convention to Pittsburg.  Steven Wheeler will report back to us next week on the events at the convention. We assume there were no police called, and no blood spilled
. 
The ‘Did you Know” segment was offered by Cheryl Gleason who presented a fact filled history of Fayetteville, The Kiwanis Club, and the service we provide to advertise why prospective members should be interested in becoming members. Thank you, Cheryl, it was very well received.

Announcements:
  • Father Guido Malzone announced the splash pad was active again today after the meeting.
  • Cheryl Gleason announced that the monthly social would be held at Lake Gaston Brewery, 5:30pm to 7:30pm on 17 July 2025
 
Program: George Hendricks introduced Scott Embry, Executive Director United Way of Cumberland County. Scott provided an informative update on how the United Way impacts the daily life of the citizens of Cumberland County. With the quality of life for our citizens as their goal United Way has launched their slogan for 2025/2026 which is “UNITED IS THE WAY”. United Way operates solely off money donated locally in Cumberland County and has served more than 171K families this year. They conduct a community assessment every 5 years to determine the greatest need for funding.  Among some of their programs are Literacy Council, Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Youth growth stock trust and 211 program.
 
Russ Jones won a bag of goodies from the United way as part of the 50/50 raffle and Padre Malzone won $41 in the money raffle.
