Friday’s Meeting April 11, 2025
President Jim got us started on time and Kirby “Sing us a Love Song” White led us in the pledge and My Country tis of thee. John Homes presented our “Did you know “segment and ran through the sordid history of Laws and Regulations (better know as L&R). Here are some highlights: In the old days, L&Rs were given almost at every meeting, and no one escaped a good ole Kiwanis ribbing about something or someone. Heading the list was Fred Best and his marital escapades that extended across 6 wives and his multiple divorces. John talked about how in those days there were baskets of parker house rolls set on every table to provide projectiles for letting members know that they were talking on borrowed time. The L&Rs became a part of every Farm City Day expertly provided by Danny Highsmith for many years. For a period L&Rs became the purview of the great Kalanick on a rendition of Johnny Carson’s Carnac. L&Rs have a place in our tradition and John could use some help if anyone is interested. We had several guests: Scott Embery, President of the Hope Mills Kiwanis Club, a Member of Terry Sanford’s Key Club and John Malzone’s son. Bring a guest to the next meeting!
Infirmed: Phil Harris Sr, Debbie Best’s sister Kara, Kali Zigler’s brother Paul, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Jason Pool and family, Bobby Bleeker, Barbara Porters Daughter in law Nicole, Tom Keith and family, and Bob Ervine. Please keep these K members and family in your thoughts and prayers.
