Friday’s Meeting August 8, 2025
We got started on time but there was some discussion about the clock in the Kiwanis center being 10 minutes fast. Nevertheless, the bell rang and Kirby “the Broadway singer “led us in singing and pledging. Bob McAmis offered the invocation, and we recognized those of us on the infirmed list. Please keep the following Kiwanis members in your prayers and thoughts: Phil Harris Sr, Lee Warren’s daughter Tammy, Tim Dunn, Debbie Best’s sister Kara, Kali Zigler’s brother Paul, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Bobby Bleeker, Barbara Porter’s daughter in law, Tom Keith and George Hendricks.
Guests: We welcomed Mary Holmes, Maddie Kellogg, and Charee as our guests.

Program: John Holmes introduced Mary Holmes and Maddie Kellogg from The Cumberland Community Foundation for an update. Maddie presented recent summary of The Foundation activities in support of our community to include Fund management, Community Grants, Non-Profit training, Women’s giving circle, and our own Kiwanis Endowment. The fund balance in the Kiwanis Endowment is now $459,256.60. If you have been considering a gift to the endowment there are many ways to donate. You can name the Kiwanis Endowment as a beneficiary, you can donate stock, and you can provide a donation direct from your IRA in the form of a Qualified Charitable Distribution. Mary Holmes followed Maddie with a Giving Trends presentation that highlighted giving trends and demographics for the past year.
A little humor
A small person was pickpocketed at the mall on the weekend. I can’t see why anyone would stoop that low.
A man was berated by his wife for being preoccupied with horoscopes. He said he would not let it Taurus apart.
