KIWANIS KEY
Friday December 5, 2025
President Elect, Jay “wow! is Stephen Wheeler gone again?” Gothard rung us in.  I believe Jay has conducted about as many Friday meetings at Stephen! If this keeps up, Jay may end up being the first two-year Kiwanis President in the history of the club! Kirby White led us in song and pledge. Jay Gothard did the invocation and then realized he had not updated the prayer list!  The updated prayer list includes Robby Talton’s wife, Deanna, Tim Dunn, the Phil Harris family, Barbara Porter’s daughter in law, Nicole, Charles T. Haigh, (reportedly in good spirits), and Fred Cutter’s father-in-law.
Guests today included Jessica Munch (membership application pending) and Shannon Arnold.
The Ugly Christmas Sweater social was held Thursday Dec. 4 at The Warehouse, co-sponsored by Al and Sue Aycock and Carmine J. Malzone. The ugly sweaters were out in force, but the “winner” was Fred Cutter’s foster child, Rosalie. Pictures of the festivities are posted on the Kiwanis Facebook page. The next social will be on January 15, 2026, location TBD.
Birthdays:  Because of Farm City and Thanksgiving there were several birthdays; November 18, John “Harbo” Harbison and Lee Warren; November 22 Tim Pope; November 26 Scott McInvaille and Corey Croegart. November 28, Darron Beal and December 3 John Ayers. Happy Birthday!
Bell Ringing this year will be at Sams Club on Saturday December 13. Please make a check out to the Salvation Army and give it to Bob McAmis next Friday, December 12.
The sock drive just finished up. 1339 pairs of new socks were given to boys and girls in Cumberland County that needed them.
Also, many presents were collected and distributed to needy children at Cumberland Road and New Century elementary schools.
Trish Moreno did a great job on these two new Kiwanis projects. A lot of children will have warm feet and some nice presents that otherwise would not have. Thanks to all who donated socks and/or gifts and Way to go, Trish!
There will be Bored Meeting next Thursday December 11 at 301 Wingz hosted by Alan Buffaloe.
Hal Broadfoot, to a smattering of “applause,” introduced our program: Major Jason Hughes of the Salvation Army gave our program. While new to Fayetteville, Major Hughes is a 23-year veteran of the Salvation Army. He gave a brief history of the SA, and gave us a lot of concrete examples of how the SA “shares God’s love in a practical way.” They feed the hungry and house the homeless, as Christ commanded us. Major Hughes deftly, but honestly, handled the topic of why the shelter had to temporarily close. To address that issue, the SA is trying to get funding from the County of $932,000. Stay tuned! He also expressed appreciation for the local Advisory Board members, current (Al Aycock) and past (Bob Exum for 50 plus years). It was a great program! If you missed it, please plan to come next Friday to see what great program will be happening then!
Lee Warren’s duck call ring tone gave him away and he was immediately visited by the Sargeant-at-Arms Roger Blackwood, in case Lee tried to avoid paying his cell phone violation.
Proving once again that God has a sense of humor, John Malzone took home $53 in winning the 50-50 Raffle.
Until next Friday…
