Kiwanis Key
Volume LXXIX Number 16 February 16, 2024
Those of you familiar with Military “lingo” will know what PCS means. Today, we had a TCS (Temporary Change of Station). Due to Early Voting at Kiwanis recreation Center, our meeting was moved to Hay Street Methodist Church’s fellowship hall. It’s a good location and the food was excellent.
President Al got us started and called on Kirby White led us in singing and the Pledge.
C. John “The Italian Stallion” Malzone gave the invocation.
Please remember the following members in your prayers: Jerry Teele, Grace Moon, John Byers (our food preparer/server), Grant Gabriel, LD Brock, Mark Hurley, Robby Talton’s wife Deanna and Worth Moore’s family.
Our guests today were a Kiwanis Interclub from Coats and Michelle Skinner, General Manager of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers.
In a new twist, President Al inducted Cheryl Gleason as a new member. Cheryl will be up front at the badge box for the next few weeks to get to know the members. Please take the time to introduce yourself.

The Program
The program was presented by our own Shirish Devesthali. Shirish shared is recent experiences from his trip to the city of Druk Yul, Bhutan. Druk Yul translates to “Land of the Thunder Dragon”. Bhutan is a landlocked country in South Asia situated in the Eastern Himalayas between China in the north and India in the south. There was a great deal of history and culture that Shirish shared. Agriculture and tourism and very important to that region. Thanks to Shirish for bringing such an interesting program.
One of our guests from the Coats club walked away with $35 from the Presidential Coercion Fund activity.
Next week’s program is non-existent… We will be at Highland Country Club for Awards Night. If you have not signed up and want to attend, please contact Jim Schaffer (see above for his contact information).
Editor’s Note: Your Board of Directors is putting considerable time and effort into evaluating the operations of the club given the aftermath of the pandemic and we “do Kiwanis”. Each of us joined this club for the expressed purpose of providing growth opportunities for the children of this community. One of the ways that you can help the club is to ramp up your attendance, not only on Fridays but also in the work of the committees. It takes all of us to make this club a thriving civic club, what many call the best civic club in Fayetteville! Give some serious thought to your commitment this week.
Parting words: You make a living by what you get, you make a life by what you give.
That’s it for me as I fill in for Bruce Brown…
