Friday Meeting
Scott McInvalle got us started off on the right foot with a lovely invocation as follows:
Count your blessings instead of your crosses
Count your gains instead of your losses
Count your joys instead of your woes
Count your friends instead of your foes
Count your smiles instead of your tears
Count your courage instead of your fears
Count your full years instead of your lean
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean
Count your health instead of your wealth
Count on God instead of yourself.
Changing of the Guard
For the 107th consecutive year the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville had a peaceful transition of power to a new leadership regime. President Al said he had a blast, but was in no way contesting the election or the will of the membership. He seemed giddy, in fact. And what a year it was. This marked a year when we returned to full post-COVID operating status with all committees full staffed with a chairman and vice chairman making regular monthly reports. We returned in person to the schools with Terrific Kids and Reading is Fundamental and a great new event, Family Fun Day headed up by Felicia Smith. We had another great youth baseball season, the Inner Club committee visited every club in our division, we elected Richard Everett as our new treasurer replacing long time treasurer Chris Dixon. Thank you for your service Chris! Sadly, we bade a final farewell to two distinguished Past Presidents, Jerry Teele and Tal Baggett and a new member, Gary Weller.
President Jim wasted no time in scuttling a century old tradition of the President wearing a coat and necktie. No mas, he proclaimed! Then he had the temerity to walk away from his first meeting as President with the 50/50 prize of $48! The Ethics Committee is investigating.
Distinguished Past Presidents Danny Highsmith and John Malzone inducted and gave the charge to the new officers and board. President, Jim Shaffer, President Elect, Stephen Wheeler, Secretary, Bob Ervin, Treasurer, Richard Everett. New and returning board members are Hal Broadfoot, Jim Ammons, Cheryl Gleason, Kim Thomas, Felicia Smith, Bob McAmis, John Holmes, Shirish Devasthali, Russ Jones, George Turner and Will Gillis. Here’s to new beginnings and a great year!

Parting Shot
Well folks, it has come to this. Rednecks are the last group left that you can safely make fun of. So, here are a few rules for leading an authentic redneck life.
- Never take a beer to a job interview.
- It is also considered in poor taste to take a cooler into church.
- A centerpiece for the dining table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist.
- While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should be done in private and with your OWN truck keys.
- Never tow another car using duct tape and pantyhose.
- When sending your wife down the road with a gas can while you wait in the truck, it is considered impolite to ask her to bring back beer.
- When going on a Saturday night date for the first time, it is crucial to establish a proper curfew with her parents. If the answer is “Monday”, then it is your responsibility to get her to school on time.

Til next time…….John F. Holmes
