Fridays Meeting 16 August 2024

President All had a stand in this Friday as Hal Broadfoot (Past President) wielded the gavel.  The word must have circulated that Hal was in charge as we had one of our smallest crowds ever. Even though the crowd was small we still had fun and a good menu.  Kirby led the singing and pledge and George Holden offered the invocation.

Infirmed:  Please keep the following K Members and their families in your thoughts and prayers:
Joh Malzone’s family, Tal Baggett’s family, Cary Downing’s Family, Tim Dunn’s brothers, Debbie Best’s sister, John Harbison, Kallie Zeigler’s son in law, Robby Talton; s wife, Diane Parfitt’s daughter, and Bob Pool.

There were no guests today, but we did recognize that Friday Aug 16 is National Airborne Day in recognition of the first Army parachute jump.

Announcements: there were no committee announcements, but Gary Cooper is selling Rubber Duck race tickets. Call or text him if you want to sign up.

Birthdays: Alan Pittman, Worth Paschal.

Program:  Stand in Hal and Debbie Best introduced Catherine Best who told us about a project she had completed at The Botanical Garden for Girl Scouts. Catherine created QR code name plaques for several trees and plants in the children’s garden.  When scanned the QR code takes you to a web page where you can learn interesting facts about the tree or plant. Used in conjunction with a map that Catherine created for the children’s garden, young people and adults alike can explore the trees and plants of The Botanical Garden.

Shirish Devasthali wone a whopping $28 in the 50/50 raffle.

Join us for our next program August 23rd when George Hendrix outlines new initiatives to help increase our membership. There will be no meeting on August 30th due to Labor Day.
