Friday’s Meeting 10 October 2025
We had a good crowd as all tables were filled. Pres Steve got us started and Kirby led the singing and pledge. Lee offered the invitation, and we were off and running.

Announcements:
- Shout out to those who helped with the annual golf tournament held at Cypress Lakes. We had 88 golfers thanks to a group of members who sponsored a team: Bob McAmis, Diane Parfaitt, Kalli Zigler, Kevin Bunn, Ad Winters, George Turner, Sue Adcock, Barbara Porter and Worth and Felicia Smith. Their sponsorship resulted in 32 additional golfers. Also, big thanks to those who worked all day to run the tournament: Felicia Smith, Cheryle Gleason, Lee Warren, Bob Mc Amis, Rodger Blackwood, Scott McInvaille and their Leader Bruce Brown.
- President Elect Jay reported the results of the BORED Meeting. Committee of the Month- The DR committee. Renovation of the Kiwanis Cabin at Lake Waccamaw and our donation on track. We will meet at Hay Street Methodist the next 3 weeks (that would be October 17,24 and 3 November). Roger Blackwood has been appointed Sargent at Arms for our meetings. There will be a new catering contract with more variety.
- Terrific Kids-Bags and supplies have all been picked up. There are some leftover supplies if you need more see Russ Jones.
- Membership- There are 2 new members pending and the next social will be Oct 30 and it will be a costume party.
- Farm City-The date for Farm City is Friday Nov 21 and it will be at the Kiwanis Center but look for an earlier start.
- Thank you letters for recent donations for the Cottage at Lake Waccamaw and recent CKI donations were read
Program: Tom Johnston presented a program on the History of the Humble Penny (this talk made a lot of cents) . We learned about the history of the penny from its origins in Europe (German Pfenning) to England and their imperial pound system and finally to Early Revolutionary America. We learned about the “chain cent”, the “flying eagle“ cent and finally the “Lincoln Head “and “Lincoln Memorial penny. Thanks for a very informative program.
Please come to our meeting next Friday at Hay Street Methodist Church where Tom Austin <retired baseball coach at Methodist University, will talk about his recent mission trip to Cuba.
