KIWANIS  KEY                                      August 9, 2024

President Al brought our Friday the 9th of August meeting to order, Kirby White led us in the pledge and the singing, and a blessing was offered by Past Prez Ad Winters.  The prayer list this week includes John Harbison’s TIA recovery, Robby Talton’s wife Deanna, Gary Weller, John Malzone and his family, Tal Baggett’s family, CV Downing’s family, Tim Dunn’s brother, Debbie Best’s sister Kara Brittain, Kallie Zeigler’s son-in-law Ben, and Diane Parfitt’s daughter Nicole.

BIRTHDAYS – Drew O’Quinn – August 9th

BOARD MEETING AND COMMITTEE OF THE MONTH – The Board met on Thursday the 8th to, among other things, begin the process of hammering out the budget for this coming Kiwanis year which starts on 1 October.  Also decided was the Committee of the Month which was awarded to Family Fun Day.  Thanks to the Smith Family and especially Felicia Smith for chairing that Committee.

2024 GOLF TOURNAMENT –Please mark your calendar for our annual golf tournament which will be on SATURDAY morning the 12th of Oct at Cypress Lakes.  The tournament was moved to Saturday in hopes of expanding attendance with folks not having to take off from work to play.  PLEASE plan to play, sponsor a hole sign or AT LEAST provide one or two door prizes in the $20-25 price range so we can continue to have a door prize for each golfer.  This is our second largest fund raiser for the Club so PLEASE plan to help.

KIWANIS ENDOWMENT – Our endowment, which has a current balance of over $412,000.00,  has received over the past couple of weeks 41 gifts totaling a little over $6,000 in memory of both Tal Bagget and Shirley Malzone.  However, the 41 gifts were only from a little over 25 people.  The donations can be as little as $25.00 and in honor of or memory of anyone of your choosing.  As this week’s bulletin writer is also the Co-Chairman of the Endowment Committee, I would request that you please find it in your heart to make a contribution.  We get income each year from the Endowment allowing the Board of Directors to pass along gifts to worthwhile organizations.  This takes pressure off our need for fund-raising projects.

PROGRAM – Prez Al introduced Anna Meyer who is the Executive Director of the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra.  Anna, who was selected as one of the 40 under 40 Class of 2023, provided a fantastic update on all the programs provided and supported by the Symphony.  Also providing input was Stephan Sanders who is the Symphony Director and Tim Altman who helps with their out reach programs.  Thanks Al for a great program.

WORDS FOR THE HEART – Happiness is not a destination, it is a way of life.  Enjoy the Journey !!
