DECEMBER SOCIAL – Was a BIG success and was held Thursday evening the 5th at 229 Donaldson Street downtown which is a new event venue. Beautiful place !!! Special thanks to Cheryl Gleason for arranging the event and to Sherish Devastali and Roger Blackwell for hosting and providing the delicious food. Mr. Downtown himself, C John Malzone, won the ugly sweater contest. He looked like he was dressed for Mardi Gras but with a Christmas flair !!!! Those of you who did not attend REALLY missed a nice evening !
FARM CITY WEEK – Another big Thank You to Lisa Childers and Lee Warren for their work on a fabulous celebration for our county farm community. Kevin Riddle was recognized as Young Farmer of the Year, and Clifton McNeill, Jr. was inducted into the Cumberland County Farmers Hall of Fame.
SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING – Saturday the 14th will be the day we ring the bell at the Mall. PLEASE bring your checks to the meeting next week and give it to Bob McAmis, Bruce Brown, or anyone else ringing that day. Our Club has had the highest one day tally for several decades and we DO NOT want to break that streak. We need two folks to ring during the 4 o’clock hour. Call Bob McAmis at 910- 551-6690 if you can help.
PROGRAM – Kiwanian Tim Dunn recruited District Court Judge Toni King who provided a very interesting and at the same time disturbing program today. She described several of the programs underway in the County which have an objective both handing down punishments and are aimed at rehabilitation. The most disturbing fact was that Cumberland County is the #1 county in the state for sex trafficking which is facilitated by our proximity to I-95. It is the number 2 money making crime nation wide only behind drugs. Thanks for a great program Tim !!
WORDS FOR THE HEART – Life is not measured by the breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away !!
NEXT WEEK – Don’t miss Bob Etheridge, State Executive Director, USDA- NC Farm Service Agency and former US Congressman from NC.
Respectfully – Bruce “Back The Pack” Brown, Ph. 910-485-2672 or bruce.brown@brownandais.com
