KIWANIS KEY May 16, 2025
President (NO TIE) Jim rang our “Friday the 16th” of May meeting to order, Kirby White led us in the pledge and the singing, and a blessing was offered by yours truly. The prayer list this week includes Phil Harris, Sr., Debbie Best’s sister Kara Brittain, Kallie Zeigler’s brother Paul, Barbara Porter’s daughter-in-law Nicole, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Lee Warren’s daughter Tammy and Bobby Bleeker. Debbie (Better Late than Never) Best showed up and thanked us for prayers and asked to be removed from the list. There were no birthdays this past week.
NEXT KIWANIS SOCIAL – Will be on the Thursday the 22nd of May at the District House of Taps, 1240 Bragg Road. Bring a potential new member or just come for some good food and fun.
NEWS FROM TODAY’S MEETING – Don’t forget to finish up your reading for your assigned Reading Is Fun classes ASAP. School will be out for the summer in just a couple more weeks. There are plenty of books in the storage closet if you need some. Also, make sure to finalize your Terrific Kid awards date and info for the school or schools to which you are assigned and get the awards packet from Diane Parfitt. Mary Kate Burke and Ella Wrenn were at the meeting today and were happy to accept a check for $10K from the Club to be used for the new Cape Fear Reginal Theater renovation project. The Splash Pad is Open and making money for the Club’s Endowment. All you have to do is come out after a meeting and get wet and photographed. The “Magnificent Malzone” is even providing towels if you forget to bring one. Every wet head generates $100 for the Endowment and that is even if you are an El-Cheapo” and choose not to write a check as well !!!!
ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – Will be Friday the 3rd of October. We need every single member to purchase a raffle prize in the $20-$25 range (Restaurant gift certificates are PERFECT) and either play, or sponsor a hole sign or both !! Remember even if you do not have a business to promote, you can do a hole sign in memory or in honor of a person of your choice.
DID YOU KNOW SEGMENT – Cheryl Gleason provided a very entertaining presentation about how she was first invited to come to a meeting, was warmly greeted, and then became hooked on our Club and the programs we support for children. Thanks Cheryl.
PROGRAM – Club member Jamie Ammons provided a terrific program on Scouting America, formerly know as Boy Scouts of America. Jamie is the District Area Coordinator, and he had a great slide presentation that included all the various programs.
WORDS FOR THE HEART – Hope is the silent promise that tomorrow holds the possibility of JOY !!!
