Friday’s Meeting May 2, 2025
President “no tie “Jim got us started on time with the help of a few anxious folks up front. Kirby “The Masked Singer” White did the honors in leading us in song and pledge. Diane Parfitt brought the invocation, and we were off and running. Please keep the following K members and their families in your thoughts and prayers: Phill Harris Sr, Debbie Best, Debbie Best’s sister Kara, Kalli Zigler’s brother Paul, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Bobby Bleeker, Barbara Porter’s daughter in law Nicole, Tom Keith and family and Lee Warren’s daughter Tammy. Our Did You Know segment was presented by Diane Parfitt and was a series of personal examples where seizing the opportunities presented always helps you grow.
Announcements:
- Stephen Wheeler announced the slate of Officers and Board members for the upcoming year. A copy is attached.
- The Kawanis Sock Drive has been a great success a group met after the meeting to pack them up by size. There are at least 5 pairs per child. Thanks to Tricia Moreno for taking the lead on this project.
- George Hendrix announced the Monthly Membership social will be May 13 at 5:30pm at the House of Taps. There will also be a new member orientation May 15 at &;30am at Holmes Electric.
- Family Fun Day is next month. Volunteers are needed contact Falicia Smith.
- John Malzone announced that The Splash Pad challenge will be coming back with a goal of 30 participants. All you have to do is stand under the frog and the endowment collects the gift.
- Terrific Kids_ Reach out to your schools’ counselor if you don’t have an award date yet. If you have a conflict with the date and time, there are others that can stand in for you. Let Diane know the award dates.
- Reading is Fun Reminder-Final reading is due soon school is almost out.
- Kiwanis Board Meeting Thursday May 8 at Scrub Oaks

Birthdays: Kirby White and John Malzone
Program: George Hendrix introduced John Webster, Executive Director of The Child Advocacy Center. John presented an update and overview of the activities that the center carries out daily to protect and preserve children in our area from abuse. Using their own professional staff and the resources from 19 partners, the advocacy center has conducted 772 referrals and multiple projects aimed at calming and nurturing children that have been abused, A very interesting program.
George Turner walked away with $38 from the 50/50 .
