Haigh, Sue Warren; Richard Everette, is home but still recovering. Norwood Bryan, Rick Daniels, Tom Keith, Jack Watson and Grant Gabriel.

Terrific Kids Russ Jones reported that all 39 schools have a Kiwanian serving them.
Reading is Fun- Russ Jones informed us that books have been delivered. Books can be picked up for the October, December and February readings from the Kiwanis Center.
Golf Committee-October 8 at Gates Four. Save the date. Sign up to play, or sponsor. This is a large club fundraiser so we need “all hands-on deck.” Sponsor a hole, sponsor a team, buy a door prize of $25 or more. The more sponsors we get, the more money to be used for the kids of Cumberland County. See Jay Gothard, Bob McAmis or Bruce Brown. We are at $51,00 pledged and over 100 entrants both of which are records. Bruce says we still need $25 door prizes. Let’s keep supporting this fundraiser!
Splash Pad challenge John needs three more participants to reach our goal. Next week is the last week of the challenge. Go get wet and raise money for Kiwanis kids!
On October 16, 23 and 30 we will meet at Hay Street Methodist due to early voting.
Guess the Kiwanian-after numerous clues about growing up nearby, going to TSHS, playing golf then and now, qualified to go to the Junior Masters but was not able to, married his high school sweetheart and has 3 children and 5 grandchildren, put in an alarm system at his father’s appliance store at 14, went to Louisburg College and UNCW, relative John Holmes guessed correctly that it was President Stephen Wheeler! This was the last Guess the Kiwanian of the year.
Jim “the Hammer” Ammons introduced himself and gave our program, which was in honor of Constitution Day.
Tracing American history from Lexington and Concord through the Declaration of Independence through the Articles of Confederation to the drafting and signing of the Constitution, Jim took us on a whirlwind recap of this critical period of our history. In it, he pointed out that we are having the same issues as that era was having, proving once again there is nothing new under the sun. if you missed it, it can’t be easily summarized, Don’t miss it next time One fun fact: On November 21, 1789, North Carolina ratified the Constitution, ceded western lands to Tennessee, chartered UNC, started the lighthouse at Ocracoke and moved the state capital from Fayetteville to Raleigh. Jim ended on a hopeful note that even though things are not great right now, they have not been great before and we have persevered none the less. Thanks, for an excellent and timely program Jim!
Lee Warren pocketed $39 in winning the 50-50 Raffle.
Our program next week is the induction of new officers for the upcoming Kiwanis year.
Until next week…
