President (NO TIE) Jim rang our Friday the 18th of July meeting to order, Kirby White was a NO-SHOW so Rick Booth stepped up and led us in the pledge and singing and then also gave a wonderful Blessing.  The prayer list this week includes Phil Harris, Sr., Debbie Best’s sister Kara Brittain, Kallie Zeigler’s brother Paul, Barbara Porter’s daughter-in-law Nicole, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Lee Warren’s daughter Tammy, Jan Ervin, Tim Dunn’s nephew Shane, and Bobby Bleeker.
 
BIRTHDAYS – 12 July – Garry Winebarger, 14 July - Henry and John Tyson
 
INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION – Stephen Wheeler gave a report on the International Convention that he and Prez Jim attended, and for the most part we all felt like the money was well spent.  As almost always happens, they both walked away feeling very good about the shape our club is in and the activities we support in our community.           
 
NEWS FROM TODAY’S MEETING –The Splash Pad is Open and making money for the Club’s Endowment.  All required is to come out after a meeting and get wet and photographed.  The “Magnificent Malzone” is even providing towels if you forget to bring one.   Every wet head generates $100 for the Endowment and that is even if you are an El-Cheapo” and choose not to write a check as well!  In conjunction with that, yours truly did the” Did You Know” address today and it was about out Kiwanis Endowment.  The Endowment was started in 1999 with the goal of reaching $100K before allowing distributions.  John Malzone, Rick Booth, Jerry Teele, Don Price and Sam Meares were a few of the folks that kicked in funds to help get it started.  To date, a total of $344K has been contributed to the fund, $152K has been disbursed to various organizations in the county, and the fund’s balance as of 30 June is $459,256.00           
 
ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT – Will be Friday the 3rd of October.  We need every single member to purchase a raffle prize in the $20-$25 range (Restaurant gift certificates are PERFECT) and either play or sponsor a hole sign or both !!  Remember even if you do not have a business to promote, you can do a hole sign in memory or in honor of a person of your choice. 
 
PROGRAM  –  Hal Broadfoot introduced Josh Murray, the Director of Development from the Fayetteville and Cumberland County Arts Council.  Josh provided a very informative program about the various programs they support every year, and he also pointed out that they just celebrated their 50th Anniversary in town this past year.  Their big annual event is the International Folk Festival planned for 26 and 27 September.  Great program Hal.
