Kiwanis Key
Volume LXXI Number 26 April 26, 2024
Attendance at our weekly meetings seems to be picking up and that is a great sign for our club.
President Al got us started and called on Kirby White who led us in singing and the Pledge.
The invocation was given by Kim Thomas.
Please remember the following members in your prayers:
Jerry Teele, Grace Moon, John Byers (our food preparer/server), Grant Gabriel, LD Brock, Robby Talton’s wife Deanna, Chris Dixon, Hooper Hall (I saw Hooper in church last Sunday, that’s a great sign) and Debbie Best’s sister (Kara Brittain).
It was reported that Former Kiwanian Fletcher Womble passed away recently. Fletcher was a great Kiwanian as evidenced by the club naming the newest award after him The Fletcher Womble Quiet Kiwanian Award. He served the club so well for many years in a quiet, unassuming way.

The Program
The program (introduced by President Al) was given by Dr. Warren McDonald. Dr McDonald talked about a book that he recently completed entitled “The Story of the Might, Might Tams”. If you are a Beach Music fan, you will certainly know the significance of this group and its impact on the Beach Music scene. Even if you are not a Beach Music fan, but you have lived in North Carolina for any period of time, you have probably heard their music. The band started in 1955 and progressed to become one of the premier Beach Music bands of all time. The Tams had relationships with other musicians as well to include Jimmy Buffet, Archie Jordan, Charlie Rish and Barbara Mandrell. As a huge fan, Dr. McDonald has known members of the group for many years and wanted to collect and preserve their history.
Thanks to President Al for bringing a fun, informative program.
Garry “2 RRs” Winebarger walked away with $70 from the Presidential Coercion Fund activity.
Next week’s program: Dr. Emma Bentham will speak about Hearing loss, hearing issues and their impact on your life.
Editor’s Note: Your Board of Directors is putting considerable time and effort into evaluating the operations of the club given the aftermath of the pandemic and how we “do Kiwanis”. Each of us joined this club for the expressed purpose of serving and providing growth opportunities for the children of this community. One of the ways that you can help the club is to ramp up your attendance, not only on Fridays but also in the work of the committees. It takes all of us to make this club a thriving civic club, what many call the best civic club in Fayetteville! Give some serious thought to your commitment this week.
Parting words: You make a living by what you get, you make a life by what you give.
