This Friday’s Meeting                                                                    15 November 2025

The Farm City Day event got off to a great start.  We had 120+ in attendance. They must have heard that we were giving away a lot of Piiiiiiies, Cakes, Turkeys and Country Ham.  The House Committee and the Farm City Committee did a fantastic job preparing for and executing one of the best Farm City Days we have sponsored. We know Glenn Jernigan was smiling down on our endeavors this day!  The menu was right out of grandma’s kitchen with Meat Loaf, Chicken, Beef tips, Mashed potatoes, Macaroni and cheese, Collards, Corn, Rolls, and Nanner Puddin.  What a feast!

President Steve got us started after we ate and Kirby led us in singing and pledging. Please keep the following Kiwanians and their families in your thoughts and prayers:    Kelly Taylor and her mother, Charles T Haigh, Phil Harris Sr and his family, Tim Dunn, Barbara Porter’s daughter in law Nicole, Kalli Zigler recovering from surgery, Robbie Talton’s wife Deanna, Fred Cutter’s father-in-law.

President Steve recognized several special guests including Kirk Devier, Glen Adams, Diane Wheatley who each recognized the inductees and their hard work in getting them this recognition. President Steve then introduced our guest speaker, Nelson Powell, who has held many volunteer and professional positions in and around agriculture in our state. Powell shared valuable insights about his work in agriculture and its impact within our region. He offered engaging and humorous highlights of positive impacts of initiatives happening in our area. Thank you for a great start to the meeting.

Farm- City Day recognized two deserving individuals with two different awards/ recognitions.
Page Kennedy Smart was recognized as the Cumberland County Outstanding Young Farmer. At a time when we need more young people to choose agriculture careers you set an inspiring example.  We are proud to honor your achievements.
Betty Green  was recognized for her outstanding contributions to agriculture, youth leadership, and community engagement. Her work through 4H has strengthened ties between local farm families reflecting a spirit of cooperation. Her commitment to education and service are the key reasons she was this year’s inductee into The Cumberland County Agriculture Hall of Fame.
