KIWANIS KEY                                December 20, 2024

President Jim rang our “Friday the 20th” of December meeting to order, Kirby White led us in the pledge and the singing, and a blessing was offered by Ad Winters.  The prayer list this week includes Robby Talton’s wife Deanna, Debbie Best’s sister Kara Brittain, Kallie Zeigler’s son-in-law Ben and her brother Jim, Bruce Brown’s daughter Karen recovering from breast cancer, Ann Keith, Max Rupp and family, and Bobby Bleeker .

BIRTHDAYS – Lisa Childers on the 15th and Bill Kelly on the 21st.

SALVATION ARMY BELL RINGING – Special thanks to Bob McAmis and those who  donated and rang the bell Saturday the 14th.  The Mall has gotten SO CHEAP that they are charging the Salvation Army for people to stand in a vacant space in the hallway.  Therefore, we rang the bell in front of Sam’s Club this year with EXCELLENT results.  Our one day total was $2,977 which was our third largest in the past 10 years. This writer AGAIN STRONGLY urges all members to Boycott the Mall !!!

NEXT KIWANIS SOCIAL – Will be on Thursday the 30th of January at Archives which is at 723 West Rowan Street.  It is next door to the Lions Center and in the same building that used to be Fullers BBQ.   More to follow.

INTERCLUB – Richard Everette and the gang of vagabonds went on an Interclub visit to the Clinton Club at the Coharrie Country Club on Thursday the 19th.   These visits help our Club maintain our status as a Distinguished Club each year as Interclub visits are required for that distinction.  Thanks to Richard for his leadership of this committee.

PROGRAM  – Stephen Wheeler introduced Al Miller from the NC United Methodist Church Western Conference.  He provided a very sobering program about the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene and the disaster relief program in Western NC.  He showed a series of slides that clearly showed that it will be years and years for recovery.  There still exists a significant need for volunteers, food. fuel, and money.  After he spoke, President Jim presented him with a check for $3000 to go towards the relief effort.

WORDS FOR THE HEART – Be God’s hands and feet on Earth and do all you can to make this a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year for all those around you !!!!!

NO MEETINGS  --  27 December or 3 January

UP COMING PROGRAM – On 10 January retired Reverend David Harvin will provide an update on Israel and the situation in the Middle East.  David spoke to the Club a few years ago about the political situation in Israel, and he has visited that area over 15 times. He also worked with a group called Fair Witness For The Middle East for many years.  I promise you that this will be a fascinating and educational program.  Invite a friend.
